Walk Out: Opinions and Reflection

On  February 14, 2018, there was a mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. The shooting resulted in the death of 17 people, and students sparked a national movement regarding harsher gun control.  On March 2, 2018, the Lab School community participated in a student organized walk out to honor the victims of the shooting massacre and stand with gun control.  However, following and during the walk out there was controversy surrounding the event's intent, in addition to reflection on past actions of the Lab School community. While many were proud of the walk out, others argued that gun violence has always been a prominent issue in the South Side of Chicago, yet Lab has never shown solidarity in the past.
