Walk Out: Opinions and Reflection

Image
On  February 14, 2018, there was a mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. The shooting resulted in the death of 17 people, and students sparked a national movement regarding harsher gun control.  On March 2, 2018, the Lab School community participated in a student organized walk out to honor the victims of the shooting massacre and stand with gun control.  However, following and during the walk out there was controversy surrounding the event's intent, in addition to reflection on past actions of the Lab School community. While many were proud of the walk out, others argued that gun violence has always been a prominent issue in the South Side of Chicago, yet Lab has never shown solidarity in the past. It had to take a shooting of white high schoolers miles and miles away for the community to finally wake up and do something. Meanwhile, every single day high school students just a few blocks away have to walk through metal ...

Chicago's Women Architects

Image
In a great city like Chicago, it's easy to find sky-high buildings and geometric structures. However, the search becomes harder if the architect is a woman. This photo-essay showcases the work that women architects have done to make their mark in Chicago. Puerto Rico's Light

Image
When Hurricane Marina tore through Puerto Rico, she spared no one. Her destruction left many without electricity, family, a home, and water supply. A few months ago I had the pleasure of visiting Puerto Rico, experiencing just a small piece of its culture, people, and natural wonders. These photos aim to show Puerto Rico's beauty even though this disastrous time.

Czech It Out (Prague + Berlin)

Image
There was so much beauty all around me in my recent trip to Prague and Berlin that I found it hard to resist trying to capture as much as I could. Prague, a city riddled with history, appears to me as a painting. As I walk on the cobblestone streets, the buildings to my left and right scream pigmented reds, blues, and yellows. Music rings from gothic style churches. Berlin is a different story. On one street I see buildings who have seen and survived the war, but a few blocks down, only the most modern of architecture is visible. The effort to recognize, not destroy history, and to look towards the future is apparent to anyone experiencing Berlin for either the hundredth, or first time. These photos aim to show the beauty of Prague and Berlin, from my eyes.
